We investigated the effects on the suppression of blood pressure elevation and anti-arteriosclerosis action by the administration of refined Rice Kefiran for 30 days in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (six-week-old male SHRSP/Hos rats) feeding on high-fat diet. In blood pressure recordings on the baseline, 15th, and 30th days, the administered group showed significantly lower values than the control group. In the measurement of total lipids, total cholesterol, and triglyceride, the administered group also showed significantly lower values than the control group. In the histopathological examination of the brain, the large artery, and the coronary artery for the control group, lipid deposition was detected in the basilar artery and the endomembrane of the aortic arch, adhesion of the intramural thrombi was observed in the aortic arch, and fibrin thrombi were observed in the intracoronary artery. The refined Rice Kefiran group showed lower-grade lesions than the control group and the lipid deposition in the endomembrane of the aortic arch was also detected at the low-grade. Consequently, it was suggested that Rice Kefiran showed suppression of blood pressure elevation and anti-arteriosclerosis action.
